Students explore the visual world by using photographic processes within a range of intellectual, aesthetic and social concerns. They learn traditional gelatin-based silver prints, which may range in scale from 35mm images to mural presentation. The source for these may be pinhole cameras, 'toy' plastic cameras, 35mm cameras, intermediate or large format cameras. Photogram and cliche-verre processes may also be used. Antique processes, including cyanotype, gum bichromate, palladium, multiple negative in-camera imagery and photo collage, may also be explored.

Students have the chance to work with commercial photographic applications for advertising and photo-journalism. Electronic re-evaluation and manipulation using Photoshop are options.

Graduates will be technically and aesthetically accomplished, with an awareness of the conceptual issues in contemporary photography. They will have developed a portfolio of work appropriate for their career.
