CERTIFICATE IN ART & DESIGN LEVEL 4

This full time one year preparatory course has two annual intakes and is geared to give you a broad based encounter with a range of visual arts media. This practical studio-based introduction includes art history, design, inter- media, drawing, graphic design, two-dimensional work with paint, print and photography, as well as three-dimensional work in glass, sculpture and clay.
Art History - To enable students to become familiar with aspects of New Zealand Art and its relation to international movements and to understand the importance of works by New Zealand artists.
Design - To enable students to learn design skills and to use the design process in their work.
Drawing Methodology - To enable students to use drawing materials, techniques and processes appropriate to the application of drawing.
Drawing Processes - To use drawing as an ongoing decision making process and to work from current and established practices.
Fashion Design - To enable students to become familiar with aspects of fashion design.
Graphic Design - To enable students to produce a body of work to show understanding of design methods and ideas.
Inter Media - To enable students to become familiar with aspects of a variety of inter-media processes using both electronic and hand processes to gain an introduction to the cultural origins of art and craft design.
Two-dimensional Studies - To enable students to gain an understanding of two-dimensional processes as a method of personal expression.
Three-Dimensional Studies - To enable students to gain knowledge and experience of working in a three-dimensional form and, through sculptural processes, explore physical, spiritual and conceptual space.

Entry Requirements
All applications welcome. There are no formal entry requirements for this programme, however please refer to Advice and Guidance.

Advice & Guidance
Students will have the opportunity to show suitable examples of their work to demonstrate their interest and commitment to the field of art and design.
To optimise chances of success attendance at a pre-course information session and consistent attendance are recommended.

International Students
